Xi Xu

Dr. X. Frank Xu's research is centered upon the advancement of multiscale modeling, uncertainty quantification, and stochastic optimization, with engineering applications on advanced materials (polycrystalline materials, functionally graded materials, fiber reinforced composites), porous media, and emerging (elastodynamic) metamaterials.

He introduced the novel concept of Multiscale Stochastic Finite Element Method (MSFEM), and the research of his group on MSFEM is currently making fast progress towards realization of a new computational tool for robustness design of engineering systems subject to uncertainty.

Dr. Xu's work has resulted in several honors and recognitions including; the US Association for Computational Mechanics (USACM) Young Investigator Travel Fellowship, 2008, Young Principal Investigator Award, Department of Energy, 2006, and ASCE ExCEEd Fellow, 2006.
