Professor Yang's research group is investigating fundamentals and applications of 1D and 2D atomic layers, as well as tunable wetting properties of conjugated polymers for sensing, energy and biomedical applications. Dr. Yang's research has broad implications that dramatically improve electrical/optical/mechanical properties of next-generation devices and provide unrivaled functionality for use in applications such as sensors, detectors, system-on-a-chip, system-in-a-package, programmable logic controls, energy storage systems and future electronic systems.

He has been the recipient of a number of awards, including NASA ICB Space Act Awards, Bonus (Level B and C) Awards and Class 1 NASA Tech Brief Awards. In recognition of his excellence in advancing the use of MEMS-based actuators for NASA's space applications, he received the prestigious Lew Allen Award for Excellence at JPL. Dr. Yang is PI on grants and contracts from AFOSR, NSF, NASA, SBIR, and US Army ARDEC. Dr. Yang holds over 15 patents issued or pending. He is Associate Editor and/or Member of Editorial Board of several journals including IEEE Sensors Journal. Dr. Yang is the director of Micro Device Laboratory, a Stevens's multi-user facility.
